Regarding vintage 1911s, pre-1970 pistols are highly collectible in original, unaltered condition and should NEVER be refinished or modified as it completely ruins their monetary value. Nice pistol lisik. I see these 'double stamp' Ithacas sell between $1800-2500 vs about $1400-1900 for ordinary Ithacas in equal condition. ![]() Jun 5, 2013 - Today I stumbled across an Ithaca 1911 in the local gun store and I think i. Looking online I can only find info for 6 digit serial numbers so this. A geometric-shape proofmark, like a triangle, arrowhead or such, on the front left of triggerguard indicates an M1911A1 made by Ithaca. An 'X' prefix to the serial number indicates a gun that has been re-serial numbered by ordnance, and the maker is neither identifiable or relevant. This option is perfect for laboratories that rely on their LIS for most of their reporting needs. Most collectors I know already have paid a premium or would pay more for a DS. Because it is listed in Clawson about like he would list a variation(not sure he says it is a variation but easy to get that impression), and collectors like variations, these will likely usually bring a premium. Having asked many collectors about the production number on these, it must be between 10,000-20,000?? These Ithacas are the only WW2 1911A1s that got A1 marked slides at the factory. I definitely think they have additional cool factor and so do many other collectors that I know. __________________ Avoid the temptation to replace everything on your brand-new 1911 just to make it 'better'. Notice that Clawson did not say exactly to serial number 1208680. The shipment of Ithaca pistols on November 5, 1943 was the first shipment of the 2nd Ithaca contract. The shipment on November 5 contained pistols in the 1208680 to 1216401 range. At that time Ithaca was not shipping in consecutive serial number order, and there were 3000 pistols in just that one shipment. As late as April 10, 1944 pistols in the 1.20 million range were still being shipped with pistols as high as the 1.27 million range. That is why he said range. My Dad was in the Korean war and the story goes that he was issued a Ithaca 1911 A1, I have the gun now and my question is, how can I find out if the gun is correct without he slide and the frame? The serial number on this gun is 998585. Or even what it is worth? The slide has IthacaGUN CO.
